Grace Marquis

Grace S. Marquis is Associate Professor and Canadian Research Chair in Social and Environmental Aspects of Nutrition. Her research career began 30 years ago at the Nutrition Research Institute in Lima, Peru. She received her doctorate in international nutrition from Cornell University in 1996 and taught for 10 years in the USA before joining the School of Dietetics and Human Nutrition at McGill University in Montréal, Canada. In 1999, her research group began working in Ghana, West Africa. The long-term collaborations in both countries continue today. Her community-based research examines how many social, cultural, biological, and environmental factors these factors interact and the mechanisms by which they alter a household’s ability to provide optimal feeding and caregiving for young children. Based on acquired knowledge, her research group develops cross-sector, integrated strategies that support child health and growth and are feasible for families in poverty, with a special focus on those living in rural communities. Dr. Marquis received a Doctorate of Laws, honoris causa, for contribution to tertiary education from the University of Ghana in 2013.
